The curators at the National Gallery in London, England, have recently applied imaging technology to Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting, The Virgin of the Rocks. They found a sketch underneath the painting that was very different from the final masterpiece.日前,英國倫敦國家美術館的館員使用圖像技術來檢測達文西的名畫《巖間聖母》,他們發現在畫作之下藏有截然不同的草圖。
英語原文According to London's National Gallery, the initial designs for the angel and Baby Jesus have been uncovered .
They say in the abandoned composition both figures are positioned higher up, while the angel is looking down on the Infant Christ with a much tighter embrace.
They also find handprints where the artist or an assistant patted down paint on the canvas.
Researchers found the new images in a material that contained zinc, so it could be seen through new imaging technology.
Leonardo painted two versions of "The Virgin of the Rocks".
They have crucial differences in the composition.
The earlier is on display at the Louvre in Paris.
