洛杉磯電影公司12日公布的統計數據顯示，受美國加利福尼亞州各級政府減少影視拍攝活動資金的影響，今年第三季度在洛杉磯地區開機拍攝的影視作品僅比去年同期增長0.3％，甚至有下滑的趨勢。

數據顯示，（洛杉磯）市截止到9月30日第三季度的戶外實景製作增長了約11.3%，只比去年同期增長了0.3％。
在上面的報導中，on-location production指的是「戶外實景製作」，on-location的意思是「拍攝外景的，實景的」，例如：on-location host（外景主持人），又如：Most of the film was shot on location in Africa.（這部影片的大部分是在非洲實景拍攝的。）Location在這裡的意思是「（電影的）外景拍攝地」，看一下例子：It was difficult to find a suitable location.（當時要找一個合適的外景拍攝地相當困難。）
「戶外實景製作」也稱作field production（棚外製作），是相對於攝影棚內的製作而言的。如果在拍攝現場錄音則稱之為on-location recording（實景錄音），即我們通常所說的「同期聲」。
近年來，由於拍攝成本上漲和政府不願提供資金支持，洛杉磯作為movie capital of the world（世界電影之都）的光環正在褪色，許多影視劇組紛紛轉移到其他州或加拿大等國進行製作。此外，許多電視劇組出於節約成本的考慮，減少外景拍攝，把精力更多地放在post production（後期製作）上，這也間接導致第三季度的業務沒有出現較大幅度增長。
