Karaoke is an activity where people sing famous songs. The words to the songs are displayed on a TV screen and people sing them out loud. Karaoke was invented in Japan in the 1980s and became popular around the world in the 1990s. 

卡拉ok是人們唱歌的一項活動稱呼。在這項活動裡，你所唱的歌曲的歌詞會被顯示在電視屏幕上，然後人們看著屏幕大聲跟著唱。卡拉ok於20世紀80年代起源於日本，90年代風靡全球。

卡拉ok這個說法是音譯，

對應的英文是

karaoke

最初來自日本，

kara在日語裡「空」的意思，

oke指英文orchestra(管弦樂隊)，

組合在一起就是

「沒有歌聲+只有伴奏」的意思。

其實在國外，KTV並非隨處可見

基本集中在唐人街和中餐館，

幾乎都是亞裔開的

KTV是主要流行在華語地區的說法，

而這個營業場所英語裡叫作

Karaoke bars are places where people can do karaoke. Inside Karaoke bars are individual karaoke rooms. The karaoke rooms are decorated with party lights and comfortable sofas. You choose the songs you want to sing by using a touchscreen computer or an app on your phone. You can also order food and drinks which you are allowed to consume inside the karaoke room.

Karaoke bar是人們唱karaoke的地方。在Karaoke bar裡，又分成各個獨立的小房間，每個房間裝飾著炫目的彩燈和舒適的沙發。你可以通過用一個觸控螢幕的電腦或者你手機的客戶端來選擇你想要唱的歌。你也可以在包間內點零食和飲料。

如果你想和外國人一起去KTV，

你可以說

go to a Karaoke bar

或sing Karaoke (唱K)，

這樣子他們就會立刻就懂啦~
