來，我們先看一個句子：
1. 你的英語比我好。Your English is better than me.
你是否感受到了什麼？沒有？那，再來一個：
2. 我的眼睛比你大。My eyes are bigger than you.
現在是否感受到了異樣？
1. 你的英語... 比...我...好?
你的英語（語言）比我（人）好？
2. 我的眼睛...比...你...大?
我的眼睛（身體部位）比你（人）大？
現在你明白了吧，👆上面的兩個句子的比較對象犯了錯誤。兩個沒有可比性的對象在對比，而我們生活中卻渾然不知。究其原因，就是不懂平行結構。
那究竟什麼是平行結構呢？通俗來講，平行結構是一種對稱結構，是語言美的一種體現。
上文的兩個句子所犯的錯誤，屬於平行結構中比較簡單的一種：對比對象的平行（一致）。正確的句式為：
1. 你的英語比我的(英語)好。
2. 我的眼睛比你的(眼睛)大。
平行結構主要分為三種情況：
1. 詞性的平行
She is not only pretty but also an intelligent girl. *
上面這個句子無論是pretty，還是an intelligent girl，都可以和She is 構成正確的句子，但由於有著平行結構詞not only, but also連接，需要詞性一致；因為pretty和girl詞性不一致，就無法放在一起。正確的寫法為：
She is not only pretty but also intelligent.
2. 形式的平行
Seeing is to believe. *
語法好的童鞋都知道，seeing和to believe都可以被歸到名詞類：seeing是動名詞，而to believe動詞不定式可以作為名詞性成分使用（請參考：To learn English is important.），但由於這二者形式不一致，故也無法用為平行結構。正確的寫法為：
Seeing is believing.
To see is to believe.
3. 結構的平行
I love Mary not because of her beauty but I love her intelligence. *
此句中not...but...同樣是平行結構標誌詞，同樣需要結構一致。本句中not後是because of短語，而but後是I love her intelligence句子，結構完全不一致。正確的寫法為：
I love Mary not because of her beauty but because of her intelligence.
