關於「去世」的委婉表達
第一種表達：die/ dead
在這個世界上，每天都有人出生，也都有人死亡。die 是一種最直接的表達死亡的方式。通常在親人，朋友或者熟人之間不怎麼用。因為太直接會讓人覺得不舒服或者難過。
當然也可以用在動物等其他生物上。We can say:
(1). My cat died yesterday. 我的貓昨天死掉了。
(2). We didn’t know if she was dead or alive. 我們不知道她是死是活。
(3). Steve Jobs died of cancer when he was only fifty-six years old. 賈伯斯在他年僅56歲的時候死於癌症。
第二種表達：pass away/ pass on
這兩個短語都可以表達「去世，離世」，是一種比較委婉的說法。
(1). I’m sorry to learn that your dear mother has just passed on. 很遺憾聽到你的媽媽剛剛過世的消息。
(2). Sam’s uncle passed away last year. 薩姆的叔叔去年去世了。
第三種表達：Sb. has gone.
這也是一個非常委婉的表達「去世，離世」的方式。比如：
I’m sorry to hear that your dog has gone. 很遺憾聽到你的狗離世的消息。
第四種表達：lost one’s life/ lost sb. （去世通常都是過去發生的事情，所以常用lose的過去式lost）
我們可以說：He lost his life in the war. 他在戰爭中犧牲了。
也可以說：We lost him ten years ago. 我們十年前失去了他。
其他一些英語中常用的委婉說法還有：
His time has come.
He has climbed the golden staircase.
His number is up.
His sands have run out.
His star has set.
He has joined the majority.
He is sleeping the final sleep.
He is resting in peace.
He has met his end.
He has breathed his last.
He answered the last number.
He has joined the angels.
