Skinny OG is making waves recently as one of the few foreign HipHop rappers to have ever made an appearance on Chinese television.
Recently featured on the China Global Television Network (CGTN) program "The Chat Room", he dropped an impressive impromptu freestyle that had the hosts and other guests of the show dancing in their seats.
This New York to Shanghai, HipHop ambassador, has similarly been dropping a lot of great music in China since he arrived in 2015. Yet now 5 years later, he is still humble, and never fails to credit those who have helped him become an underground celebrity.
Some of those who Skinny thanks most often, are the Chinese friends who have made him feel at home here, in China.
So, during the recent COVID-19 outbreak in early 2020 when he saw many of his friends flee for their safety, Skinny put his faith in the efficiency of the Chinese system and he stayed put, in Shanghai.
Instead of abandoning his adoptive Chinese home, Skinny recorded a remix of the Future hit "MASK OFF" which he perfectly re-titled "MASK ON", telling people to be safe and have faith because "it will be alright, the government is working hard day and night to beat the virus." And of course, he was right.
During the many interviews that Skinny has given since then in recent months, ranging from Denmark to Australia to the USA and Canada, the OG never fails to mention his love for China, and for the fans who have welcomed his socially conscious rap poetry, as well as his hardcore street music.
In China, Skinny OG's music is available on his website blackchinamusic.com, and also on Netease, Youku, QQ and Kugou, to name just a few. But he keeps his fans guessing by posting different songs on different platforms, so each playlist can be unique.
He says that his favorite songs are on Pyro, a smaller platform tucked away from the Chinese mainstream. However, most of his fans are on Wechat, where his company "Black China Music" opetates a few dozen chat groups for hardcore HipHoppers like himself, and for music fans of all stripes.
That intetnational BCMC family includes thousands of people in dozens of BCMC chat groups, and countless Chinese HipHoppers that he mentors, educates, and helps to understand the deeper history and meaning of the global cultural phenomenon called HIPHOP.
And of course, they also enjoy the daily conversations and the music, videos, entertainment news, and comedy, available through the BCMC outlets.
