【翻譯心得】
關於《大林寺桃花》一詩翻譯的幾點心得體會

都說功夫在詩外,這次的翻譯我能意外獲得中外諸多評委的認可,或許跟我的一點點詩外功夫有關,現與大家分享如下:
一、我是學新聞搞新聞的,在這次的翻譯中我有機地借鑑了新聞故事的寫作手法,把5個W(When, Where, What, Why, Who)巧妙地融入譯作之中了,並在構思上進行了「四化處理」:內容鏡頭化,鏡頭故事化,故事情節化,情節戲劇化。特別是情節戲劇化,我承認我是動了一番腦筋的。新聞報導講究「虎頭、豬肚、豹尾」,也就是說開頭要像虎頭有氣勢,中間要像豬肚有內容,結尾要像豹尾有力度。這些我都注意到了,尤其是最後一句,我在「譯·中國」接龍提交譯文的小程序上至少修改了6次。在句型和動詞的選擇上一直猶豫不決,一開始是用「unexpectedly」來表達驚訝之感的,但總覺得這樣的表達還不夠,後來就改用Who knows開頭的疑問句型了,至少「who knows」能很好地對應原文中的「不知」二字,且增添了訝異的程度。在動詞的選擇上一開始用的是happen to run into,但顯得有點囉嗦,後來乾脆把happen一詞去掉了,run into本來就包含了巧遇之意。run into 和bump into意思一樣,但最後換成了bump into,是考慮到讀起來更順暢一點。
二、白居易的詩淺顯易懂,朗朗上口。英文譯本也應該如此,為此,我除了注重譯本的通俗性外,還特意設計了每句的尾韻,並自己進行了反覆朗讀,把不必要的拗口的詞統統去掉或換掉。
三、讀萬卷書不如行萬裡路。白居易詩中的大林寺在江西廬山,這個地方我曾於20年前去過,而且就在陰曆四月。當時只是路過,我們的主要目的地是偉大領袖毛澤東詩中的「天生一個仙人洞,無限風光在險峰」。所以,我對白居易詩中描寫的環境並不陌生,曾經的腳步或多或少激發了我的一些翻譯靈感。譯文中的footsteps一詞也許就是從代入感中冒出來的。其實,詩尾的戲劇性效果,我在20年前就有切身體會,有拙作為證——《氤氳繚繞登匡嶽》:氤氳繚繞登匡嶽,春意闌珊料峭寒。正懼身淹雲海底,霎時遠近冒青山。

But peach blossoms are full-blown in this mountainside.
