Learn a new word, oh yeah, it’s a walk in the park
Welcome everyone!
This is hewaiguoren shuo yingyu, I’m Chris and today we’re gonna talk wheels.
Now I’m not talking about real wheels. Those little round things that move or turn objects. You know, like the wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round. Or the wheels on your car, or your skateboard or whatever.
In American slang, the word wheels means a car. That’s it. My wheels. Your wheels. Her wheels. My car. Your car. Her car.
It’s so simple right?
Wheels = car. A car has 4 wheels already so if you talk about 『wheels,』 you’re just talking about your car.
So we often say things like:
I don’t have any wheels this week, I』ll just have to Uber.
Can you pick me up? I don’t have wheels.
Did you see her new wheels? Wow! I』d love a car like that.
Ok quick dialog.
Sam: Whoa dude! Is that your new wheels?
Greg: Oh yeah, it’s unreal how awesome it is.
Sam: Oh man, I am so jealous. I’m also saving up for some new wheels.
Greg: Well, it took me ages to save up for these wheels.
Sam: Can I take it out for a spin?
Greg! Of course... NOT!
Ahah I wouldn’t let my friends borrow my new wheels either.
So do you have your own wheels? Do you think it’s a good idea to let your friends use your wheels?
I dunno. That’s just asking for trouble. But leave me a comment and tell me what you think.
Some more examples.
My dad promised to get me some new wheels if my grades are good.
The first thing I’m gonna do when I get promoted is buy some new wheels.
So go on, take your wheels out for a spin and play your favorite podcast while you drive.
Time to love and leave you dears! Oh no!
