Third wheel, 第三個車輪？No.

自行車、摩託車、馬車、手推車一般都是兩個車輪。再加一個車輪就多餘了，沒什麼用。

汽車、卡車一般都是4個車輪。再加一個車輪就多餘了，沒什麼用。

因此，third wheel, fifth wheel就是多餘的，無用的。等同於我們中文經常說的「當電燈泡」，不該出現的場合。

比如，My sister will goto Florida with her fiancé for a             vacation. They asked me to go with them.  I believe their        invitation is just for politeness.  I gave them an excuse not to go as I do not want to be a third wheel(fifth wheel).我妹妹和她男朋友要去佛羅裡達度假。他們邀請我去。我相信他們是出於禮節。我不想當電燈泡，找了個藉口謝絕了。
