02問：緣起是什麼意思？
A: Dependent Origination means that all dhammas arise through causes or conditions (hetu or paccaya).
答：「緣起」即「諸法由因緣而起」。
In brief, all things or phenomena arise out of mutually dependent relationship and conditions. Nothing exists without interdependent relationship and condition.
簡單地說，就是一切事物或一切現象的生起，都是相待（相對）的互存關係和條件，離開關係和條件，就不能生起任何一個事物或現象。
Hetu and paccaya, generally speaking, are cause and condition. The Buddha defined "Dependent Origination" as follows:
因（Hetu）、緣（Paccaya），一般地解釋，就是關係和條件。佛曾給「緣起」下了這樣的定義：
When this exists, that exists.
Because this arises, that arises.
When this does not exist, that does not exist.
When this ceases, that ceases too.
若此有則彼有，若此生則彼生；
若此無則彼無，若此滅則彼滅。
These four sentences express the coexistent relationship, both simultaneous and non-simultaneous (sequential).
這四句就是表示同時的或者異時的互存關係。
