Hey! Hey! Hey! 我是RJ高曉龍,歡迎來到今天的「快趣學英語」。
I'm gonna kick some ass! Wait… I mean... I'm gonna kick his ass! No no, I mean, I'm kickass!... Hrm... Wait...
今天我要踢幾個人的屁股(好好露一手)!等等… 我是說… 我要踢他的屁股(擊敗他)!不不不,我是說,我不是好惹的!額… 等等…
What's the difference? 有什麼差別?
All are actually really cool and common English expressions, but all of them have a very different meaning! Which one should you use, and in what situation?
其實上面這些都是非常酷和常見的英語表達,但是它們都有非常不同的含義!在不同的情況下,又該如何使用它們呢?
Let’s start with ass. I was once asked what’s the difference between 「ass」 and 「butt.」 Well, nothing actually, it’s the same, both are 屁股. The only difference is 「butt」 is a more polite and cuter way to say it, while ass is a more slang and, well, 「rude」 way to say it. Some people consider 「ass」 a bad word, so I would only suggest you use it around people you know are OK with that kind of language.
我們先來看看「ass」這個單詞。曾經有人問我,「ass」和「butt」到底有什麼區別?其實它們並沒有區別,都是「屁股」的意思。唯一不同的是,「butt」是一種更禮貌或更委婉的說法,而「ass」則是一種更偏向俚語、或者更「粗魯」的一種說法。有些人會把「ass」認為是個不禮貌的詞,所以我建議你最好在你非常熟的朋友面前才說這個詞。
Now then, to the point of the article…
那麼現在,重點來了…
Kickass [kik-as] 太棒了 / 了不起
Basically, this just means 「awesome!」 Anytime you think something is great, or amazing, you can say 「Kickass!」 It can also be used as an adjective to describe a noun.
基本上它跟「awesome」的意思差不多,都表示「太棒了」!每當你覺得某件事很了不起,或者某件事驚豔到你了,你就可以說「kickass」!它也可以用作一個描述名詞的形容詞。
Examples:
OMG, I got 100% on the advanced thermodynamic physics test yesterday! Kickass!
天啊,我昨天在高級熱力學物理考試中得了滿分!太棒了!
Pam: Did you see Archer’s kickass car? It’s pink with yellow stripes.
帕姆:你看到阿哲的酷車了嗎?是粉紅色的,還帶有黃色的條紋耶。
Dr. Kruger: Uhh… pink with yellow stripes? That’s sure not my opinion of kickass…
庫魯格博士:額… 粉紅色還帶有黃色條紋?在我看來一點都不酷…
Peter’s job at the brewery comes with some kickass benefits, like free beer for life!
彼得在釀酒廠的工作給他帶來了一個超棒的福利,比如終生啤酒免費!
Kick (some) ass 好好露一手 / 幹得漂亮
This time, the grammars different. First we say the verb 「kick」 and then tell someone what to kick, the object 「ass.」 Saying 「kick ass」 or 「kick some ass」 is one of many ways to tell someone 加油! It’s like 「do well, fighting, you can do it!」
這一次,語法不同。首先,我們說動詞「kick—踢」,然後告訴某人該踢什麼,「ass—屁股」。「Kick ass」或者「kick some ass」其實是「加油」的其中一種說法!就像是在說「do well, fighting, you can do it! 幹得漂亮!加油!你能做到的!」
Examples:
You』ll do fine on the Ranger test Woodie, don’t worry. I have complete faith in you. Go and kick ass!
伍迪你會在公園管理員測試中表現得很好的,別擔心。我相信你能行的。放開手去做吧!
Ethel: Connie’s got a big speech tomorrow, I’m not sure she』ll remember it all.
埃塞爾:康妮明天有一個重要的演講,我不確定她能不能把稿子完整地背出來。
Denzel: Connies smarter than she looks, I have no doubt she』ll kick ass.
丹澤爾:放心吧,她比她的外表看起來還要聰明,我相信他會發揮的很好的。
It’s your first time teaching, huh? Try to just ignore the 40 screaming wild kids in there and go in and kick some ass.
這是你第一次教書嗎?那40個尖叫的熊孩子當做不存在,然後進去好好露一手吧。
Kick someone’s ass 擊敗 / 讓... 吃不了兜著走
When we are more specific about whose ass we want to kick, then we are telling someone to 「beat」 them; to fight them, and win.
當我們更具體地想要"踢誰的屁股"時,則是在告訴別對方「去打敗他們」,「去戰勝他們,並且贏得勝利」。
Examples:
If someone steals my lunch again, I swear I’m going to kick their ass!
如果有人再偷我的午餐,我發誓我會讓他們吃不了兜著走!
Did you hear? Malloy and Steve got in a fight yesterday. Of course, Malloy kicked Steve’s ass.
你聽說了嗎?馬洛伊和史蒂夫昨天打起來了。當然了,最後是馬洛伊打贏了這場架。
Hey buddy! You look at my girlfriend like that one more time and I’m gonna kick your ass!
兄弟!如果你再像那樣子看我的女朋友一眼,我保證會把你的眼珠子挖出來!
I hope that helps! So next time you wanna give your friend encouragement to do well at a job interview, tell him to kick ass! But not 「kick his ass」 because then he might beat up the boss! If he gets the job though, then that’s kickass! He would now have a new kickass job! As for me, time to play some kickass video games with my friend, I’m gonna kick his ass!
我希望今天的文章對你有所幫助!所以下次當你要給你的朋友鼓勵,讓他在面試中表現出色,你就可以跟他說「kick ass」!但是不要說成「kick his ass」,因為那樣他可能會以為你是讓他去揍他的老闆!如果他得到了這份工作,那麼_____!他現在有了一份_____工作!至於我,我準備和我的朋友去玩一些_____電子遊戲了,我一定會_____!那我們就下次見啦,______!
