（3）absent 是個形容詞，但有時也可以當做介詞使用放在已有限定詞的名詞前面，相當於without，表示「在缺乏...的情況下」。
【例如】Absent such a direct threat, Mr. Carter professes to feel no pressure.( William Safire, The New York Times, Dec. 20, 1976）既然誒呦這樣一個直接的威脅，卡特先生就裝作不感到有什麼壓力了。/ Those strategies are being shaped
