8月20日晚，在美國堪薩斯城舉行的第74屆雨果獎頒獎典禮上，中國80後科幻作家郝景芳在同組對手有史蒂芬 · 金的情況下，最終憑藉《北京摺疊》摘得最佳中短篇小說獎。這是繼劉慈欣的《三體》後，中國人在世界性科幻大獎上第二次取得這樣驕人的成績，同時郝景芳也成為亞洲首位女性「雨果獎」得主。
第73屆雨果獎獲得者劉慈欣評價說：「我一直很喜歡郝景芳的作品。我感覺她的作品和其他的科幻作品相比，她有一個別的科幻作品沒有的特點，她把我們主流的科幻題材，常見的科幻題材灑上了一層很詩意的陽光。她的作品在我們主流科幻題材中，她表現出一種詩意，這種詩意讓人感覺到既有很古典的味道，也有很現代、很前衛的感覺。」

I’m not going to say that I’m very surprised of this prize because I already expected it for this scenario. Well, it does not mean that I’m very proud and I think I’m better than anybody else.
我不準備說獲獎讓我非常吃驚，因為我預料到這一情景。這倒不是說我這個人驕傲，認為我比別人強。
The truth is that I also expected for another scenario that I’m not winning. I registered for a party called 「Hugo Loser’s Party」 after the ceremony, held by one of my favorite writers. Actually, I almost cannot decide which scenario I’m more looking forward to.
事實上，我也預料到另一個情景，就是我沒獲獎。我還報名參加了一個「雨果獎失敗者聚會」，典禮後就會舉辦，那是我最喜歡的一位作家湊的局。說真的，我都拿不準哪一種情景是我最盼望的。
Science fiction...science fiction writers love to expect all possibilities, whether it’s good or bad, it’s likely or unlikely. Sometimes, you will hear the science fiction writers talk about the strategies to face aliens, on the dining table, seriously. We just live in all possible scenarios. We live in all the parallel universes.
科幻小說……科幻小說作者喜歡預測所有的可能性，無論是好是壞，可能發生還是不大可能發生。有時，你會聽到科幻作者在飯桌上很嚴肅地談論應對外星人的種種策略。我們生活在全部可能情境中，我們生活在全部平行宇宙中。
Back to my story, Folding Beijing, I also give a scenario of a possible future. All human nowadays have to face the problems of automation, the technological development, unemployment, and also inequality and other issues. In my story, I give one of the solutions, a quite dark one.
回到我的故事——《北京摺疊》，小說也給出一種未來的可能情境。今天所有人都面對自動化、技術進步、失業、不平等等諸多問題。在我的故事裡，我給出諸多解決方案中很黑暗的一種。
Obviously, it’s not the optimal one. However, it’s also not the worst one. At least in my stories, people are not have to…people do not have to starve to death, and the government do not send the poor young people to the war field, which always happen in the reality. I don’t know what will happen in the true future. But I do hope that the real future will be brighter than my story.
很顯然，這不是最優的。然而，也算不上最壞的。至少我的故事裡，人們不會……人們不會餓死，政府也沒有把窮困的年輕人送上戰場，可這在現實中頻頻發生。我不知道真正的未來會發生什麼，但我希望真正的未來比我故事寫的更光明。

At ten to five in the morning, Lao Dao crossed the busy pedestrian lane on his way to find Peng Li.
從垃圾站下班之後，老刀回家洗了個澡，換了衣服。白色襯衫和褐色褲子，這是他唯一一套體面衣服，襯衫袖口磨了邊，他把袖子卷到胳膊肘。老刀四十八歲，沒結婚，已經過了注意外表的年齡，又沒人照顧起居，這一套衣服留著穿了很多年，每次穿一天，回家就脫了疊上。他在垃圾站上班，沒必要穿得體面，偶爾參加誰家小孩的婚禮，才拿出來穿在身上。這一次他不想髒兮兮地見陌生人。他在垃圾站連續工作了五小時，很擔心身上會有味道。
After the end of his shift at the waste processing station, Lao Dao had gone home, first to shower and then to change. He was wearing a white shirt and a pair of brown pants—the only decent clothes he owned. The shirt’s cuffs were frayed, so he rolled them up to his elbows. Lao Dao was forty–eight, single, and long past the age when he still took care of his appearance. As he had no one to pester him about the domestic details, he had simply kept this outfit for years. Every time he wore it, he』d come home afterward, take off the shirt and pants, and fold them up neatly to put away. Working at the waste processing station meant there were few occasions that called for the outfit, save a wedding now and then for a friend’s son or daughter.
The Hugo Awards are a set of awards given annually for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements of the previous year. The awards are named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the pioneering science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, and were officially named the Science Fiction Achievement Awards until 1992. Organized and overseen by the World Science Fiction Society, the awards are given each year at the annual World Science Fiction Convention as the central focus of the event. They were first given in 1953, at the 11th World Science Fiction Convention, and have been awarded every year since 1955.
雨果獎是一個每年頒予上一年最佳科幻或奇幻作品的獎項。該獎得名於《驚奇故事雜誌》創辦者雨果·根斯巴克，且在1992年由官方命名為「科幻成就獎」。它由世界科幻小說協會舉辦，在世界科幻大會上頒獎，是該大會的核心活動。該獎首次於1953年第11屆世界科幻大會上頒發，並自1955年起每年都有頒發。
Female sci-fi writer wins Hugo accolade
Science-fiction author Hao Jingfang became the first Chinese woman to win a Hugo Award on Sunday, beating best-selling horror and fantasy writer Stephen King in the best novelette category. The32-year-old from Tianjin received the prize for Folding Beijing, in which she depicts the Chinese capital as a city divided by social class. "My story suggests a possibility for the future and also proposes a solution. ... In my story, the future is brighter than we thought, and I hope it is even better," Hao said when accepting her award at the Kansas City Convention Center Grand Ballroom.

Personal Statement about Ken Liu——劉宇昆
劉宇昆(Ken Liu，1976年—)，男，美籍華裔科幻作家，畢業於哈佛大學，職業是程序設計員與律師，業餘從事科幻小說與詩歌的寫作。2002年隨著《迦太基的玫瑰》一文問世，劉宇昆逐漸受到美國文學界矚目。在2009年4月的《科幻世界》雜誌上，刊載了劉宇昆的兩篇小說《愛的算法》(The Algorithms For Love)和《單比特錯誤》(Single Bit Error)。其中《愛的算法》一文深受讀者好評，此後，他的許多科幻小說在中國國內發表，逐漸為國內的科幻迷熟識。
除了創作科幻小說外，劉宇昆還將劉慈欣、陳楸帆(英文名：Stanley Chen)、馬伯庸(英文名：Marberionius)、夏笳等中國國內科幻名家的作品譯成英文在國外發表，起到了溝通中西科幻的橋梁作用。近兩年劉宇昆的創作速度以及質量都迎來了一個高峰，過去兩年內他陸續在各大科幻雜誌發表了二十多篇短篇科幻小說。2012年9月2日在芝加哥舉行的第70屆世界科幻大會(WSFC：World Science Fiction Convention)上，劉宇昆的小說《手中紙，心中愛》(The Paper Menagerie)，獲得了2012年雨果獎(正式名稱為「科幻成就獎」，簡稱Hugo Award，英文全稱為The Science Fiction Achievement Award，)的最佳短篇故事獎，而今年五月他即憑藉此部作品獲得了星雲獎(Nebula Award)最佳短篇故事獎，雨果獎和星雲獎分別有科幻界的諾貝爾與奧斯卡之稱，由此劉宇昆也成為了繼姜峰楠(Ted Chiang)之後又一位華裔世界科幻最高雙獎獲得者。劉宇昆的《終結歷史的男人》(The Man Who Ended History)也獲得今年星雲獎與雨果獎的中篇小說獎提名，但最終未能獲獎。
2012年11月7號下午，中國科幻作家領軍人物劉慈欣的科幻作品《三體》三部曲譯者籤約儀式在北京舉行，這標誌著中國科幻開始進軍英文世界。其中三體第一部《三體》由劉宇昆擔任翻譯。2014年因為把《三體》等優秀中國科幻小說成功譯介到西方，被授予第五屆華語科幻星雲獎特別貢獻獎2013年9月，劉宇昆的短篇小說《物哀》(Mono NO Aware)再次獲得雨果獎。2015年劉宇昆翻譯自中國科幻作家劉慈欣的《三體》三部曲的第一部，英文版的名稱被譯為《三體問題》(The Three-Body Problem)。獲得美國科幻奇幻作家協會(Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, Inc.，簡稱SFWA)2014年度"星雲獎"提名。
