英國廣播公司(BBC)國際部7日公布的一項名為「國家形象」的民調顯示，中國的國際形象過去一年有所上升，44%的受訪者對中國持積極看法，而去年這一比例為40%。

李（永輝）教授呼籲中國和其它國家展開更多民間交流，以在國際社會營造更積極的國家形象。
文中的people-to-people communication就是指「民間交流」，也可以稱為non-governmental exchanges。民間交流不僅可以促進positive international influence（積極的國際影響力）和overseas image（海外形象），而且可以促進people-to-people diplomacy/public diplomacy（民間外交）。
目前，我國已成為engine of the global economy（國際經濟發展的引擎），因此如何提升overseas image也稱為面臨的重要挑戰。為提升國際形象，我國去年還在海外發行了national publicity film（國家形象宣傳片）。
