Hello
Debunking the #BroomChallenge: Why you can make a broom stand on its own any day of the year
A new challenge is sweeping the internet, quite literally.
Social media was inundated on Monday with posts about the #BroomChallenge that contained an alleged post for NASA claiming that February 10, 2020 was the only day a broomstick would be able to stand on its own because of something to do with "gravitational pull."
While the alleged NASA tweet doesn't exist, the broom challenge isn't entirely a lie.
The truth is, anyone can make a broom stand up on its own today, tomorrow or any day of the year.
The "challenge" has nothing to do with the gravitational pull of the Earth or anything tied to a certain day of the year or century. It's all about balance and patience.
The basis of the #BroomChallenge was likely along the same lines as the #EggChallenge. The center of gravity is quite low on a broom, which means anyone can make a broom stand up if they try hard enough —any day of the year.
The same science works with eggs —the longer an egg stands upright, the yolk will settle on the bottom and lower the egg's center of gravity and allow it to stand upright.
But it's still a fun challenge —and dozens of people tried it out Monday.Debunking the #BroomChallenge: Why you can make a broom stand on its own any day of the year
debunk:to expose the falseness of 揭穿…
The article debunks the notion that life exists on Mars.(該文章駁斥了火星上有生命的觀點;該研究揭穿了「火星上有生命」這一觀點的錯誤。)
Anyone with a brain cell would never believe such bunk.(但凡長點腦子的人都不會信這鬼話)
A new challenge is sweeping the internet, quite literally.
My house is right across the street.
My house is literally across the street.
Social media was inundated on Monday with posts about the #BroomChallenge that contained an alleged post for NASA claiming that February 10, 2020 was the only day a broomstick would be able to stand on its own because of something to do with "gravitational pull."
1. Overwhelm (someone) with things or people to be dealt with. 2. Flood
The islands may be the first to be inundated as sea levels rise.(由於海平面上升,這些島嶼可能率先被洪水淹沒)
We』ve been inundated/overwhelmed with patients to be treated.(我們被等待治療的患者淹沒了。
My house is full of money.
My house is inundated with money.
The center of gravity is quite low on a broom, which means anyone can make a broom stand up if they try hard enough —any day of the year.
along the same lines很簡單,就是相似的意思,與它相近的說法還有along those lines; along these lines; along similar lines; along the lines of.
例:We were both thinking along the same lines.(我倆當時的想法很相似)
The first day there is usually a welcome dinner or something along those lines.(第一天通常會有歡迎晚宴,或者類似的活動)
Vienna and Berlin were modernist cities, almost along the lines of Chicago.(維也納和柏林都是現代主義城市,和芝加哥差不多)
The same science works with eggs —the longer an egg stands upright, the yolk will settle on the bottom and lower the egg's center of gravity and allow it to stand upright.
我們常用的work with,work和with是一體的,表示和誰開展工作;用…
I would like to work with you.(我想和你共事)
Do you know how to work with a voltmeter?(你會用電壓表嗎?)
Let me work with him for a while. I'll convince him.
I want to work with this engine and see if I can get it started.(我想鼓搗一下這臺發動機,看看能不能發動起來)
The same science works with… work其實和with是相對分開的。
這裡的work和It actually works!(居然管用!) It actually works with eggs!(居然對雞蛋也管用!)
But it's still a fun challenge —and dozens of people tried it out Monday.
