Global Competitiveness Report 2017-2018 was published
The World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report 2017-2018, published recently.
Ten years from the global financial crisis, the prospects for a sustained economic recovery remain at risk due to a widespread failure on the part of leaders and policy-makers to put in place reforms necessary to underpin competitiveness and bring about much-needed increases in productivity。
The report is an annual assessment of the factors driving countries』 productivity and prosperity.
For the ninth consecutive year, the report’s Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) finds Switzerland to be the world’s most competitive economy, narrowly ahead of the United States and Singapore. China is the highest ranking among the BRICS group of large emerging markets, moving up one rank to 27.
「Global competitiveness will be more and more defined by the innovative capacity of a country. Talents will become increasingly more important than capital and therefore the world is moving from the age of capitalism into the age of talentism,」 said Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum.
INSEAD, the business school for the world, announced recently the reinstatement of its Chinese name ——歐洲工商管理學院 (European Institute of Business Administration).
Displayed as 「INSEAD 歐洲工商管理學院」, the Chinese name encapsulates the true essence of INSEAD as a global business school with distinctive European roots.
INSEAD Dean and Professor of Economics Ilian Mihov notes, 「As we expand our activities in the strategic markets to further our footprint globally, it’s important that our brand name including its Chinese version recognises the school’s unique heritage. The re-adaptation of our cultural Chinese brand name pays tribute towards our success and history.」
In 2007, only 2.6 percent of INSEAD’s MBA participants were from China. 10 years on in 2017, Chinese make up 9.4 percent of the total MBA programme enrollment, making them the second largest group of participants by nationality.
To further enhance INSEAD’s presence in Greater China and beyond, the school has officially launched its WeChat account.

It offers scope for improving long term health outcomes and reducing health care expenditures through medical nutrition, functional foods, food choices and other dietary means.」
He gave an example of research collaboration with Prof. Wu Yangfeng and Prof. Fang Hai from Peking University Health Science Center, 「our study has shown that consuming fortified milk powder could offer a cost-effective way to slow down the rapid rise in China’s cardiovascular burden.」
Junshi Chen, chairman of the symposium and director of ILSI Focal Point in China, commented that Detzel’s talk delivered a message that value in health through nutrition is very important, and 「we need to accumulate more practice experiences, to inform policy development and ensure appropriate nutrition and aging cares for those elderly in needs」.
