Underglaze red, one of the underglaze color decoration techniques, created in the Yuan Dynasty Jingdezhen. It is to contain copper element as a color agent of the color material according to the desired pattern painted on the surface of the porcelain blank, and then cover with a layer of colorless transparent glaze, and then into the kiln at 1300℃ or so high temperature reduction flame atmosphere once fired.
This red plum vase in early Ming Dynasty has small mouth, curly lips, slightly closed from the abdomen to the bottom, shallow circle without glaze, beautiful in shape, complete in shape and full of old age. Plum bottle top flame button, the whole body applied white glaze, slightly green white, fine and moist enamel, bottom dew tire. The theme decoration and the auxiliary decoration are harmonious and decent, which is a rare artwork.
It is well known that underglaze red is very difficult to burn. Underglaze red was created in the Song dynasty and flourished in the Yuan Dynasty. At its peak in the Ming Dynasty, the glaze red was formed by the forging and burning of copper oxide, which would evaporate at 800 ° C or more, but the cobalt blue was as high as 1300 ° C. It was a bit of a fluke to keep the underglaze red at the same time. So firing underglaze red, from the pigment preparation and the production process from beginning to end are very strict. If there is a slight deviation, there is the possibility of scrapping the whole kiln, once heard the previous generation said that firing underglaze red, ten can be out of one, it can be described as good! This is the portrayal of the difficulty of firing underglaze red. And yuan people are still white, Han people are still red, national identity is also different, so the yield of underglaze red has been very small.
