*關於病毒本身
這次的新型冠狀病毒（coronavirus），
具有傳染性（contagious/infectious），
目前已經被證明會人人傳播（human-to-human transmission）。
病毒的潛伏期（incubation period）一般為3-7天，最長不超過14天，
coronavirus在潛伏期沒有症狀（symptom）的時候也會傳播。
coronavirus還沒有治癒藥或者疫苗（cure or vaccine）。
感染上病毒會引發呼吸道感染（respiratory infection）
甚至是肺炎（pneumonia），
症狀包括發燒（fever）、
乾咳（dry cough）、
氣短（shortness of breath）、
呼吸困難（breathing difficulty）等等。
*關於病毒的爆發與傳播
據說此次coronavirus發源於武漢的海鮮市場（seafood market），非法的野生動物交易（illegal wild animals transaction），
野生動物經常是各類病毒的宿主（reservoir for virus），食用野生動物很容易感染病毒。
疫情是epidemic situation，
的爆發是outbreak，
加強是strengthening或escalating，
「控制」疫情用contain，如contain the spread，contain the outbreak，
更積極的就是combat the virus。
CNN在報導的時候把武漢稱為ground zero，原意是核爆點，這裡是指centre of the outbreak，用來說明這裡疫情的嚴重程度。
這次疫情在中國趕上了春節（coincide with the Lunar New Year Festival），
因為春運期間大量人員在路上（on the move，或者說criss cross the country），讓疫情的控制難上加難。
受到影響的地區（impact zone）除了武漢，還包括鄰近城市以及更遠的地方（neighbouring cities and further afield）。
死亡總數（death toll）一直在攀升。確診的病例可以說confirmed case，疑似病例就是suspected case。
*關於疫情的防治
· the lockdown of the city/the city is in lockdown 禁閉
· a city in quarantine 隔離
· seal off the city 封死
· shut down the city 關閉
· the closure of the city 關閉
BBC直接將武漢封城比作是"shutting down London in the week before Christmas"。
其他城市為了防止病毒傳播，
有的實施了嚴格的旅行管控（impose strict travel restrictions）,
暫停（suspend）一些公共設施，
禁止（ban）一些長途汽車的運行，
有的甚至阻止武漢人員進入屬地（block visitors from Wuhan entering the territory）。
美國在撤離留在武漢的領事館人員，即evacuate citizens/diplomats。BBC還用了一個詞extract。
疫情爆發以來，武漢的醫院就已經無法承載來看病的人員了——
The emergency has overwhelmed Wuhan's hospitals，
抗病毒的（antibiotic）藥物也進入緊缺狀態。
*如何預防呢？
因為coronavirus主要是通過飛沫傳播（spread via droplets），也可通過接觸傳播，
預防措施包括保持手和呼吸道衛生（hand and respiratory hygiene），戴口罩（face mask），
使用消毒劑（disinfectant），避免人群聚集等等。
一旦發現被傳染，應該及時去醫院治療（hospital treatment），
並且注意隔離（quarantine）。
這次coronavirus爆發以來，外媒雖然報導得非常密集，我的確是還沒有聽到什麼刻意的negative的聲音。WHO的一位官員專門錄製視頻肯定中國處理此次病毒疫情的能力，與SARS時期相比，中國「has a much, much stronger capacity…」
