簡單分享下對P1-P3做的閱讀筆記，版本如圖所示。以下僅是個人的學習筆記，並非完全正確。不足之處，可留言指出。

·stir與flutter原為動詞，分別意為「攪動」、「顫動」，在這裡作變為動名詞，意為「一陣躁動」

·ensconced A. if you are ensconced somewhere, you are settled there firmly or comfortably and have no intention of moving or leaving.

· N. a beam is a long thick bar of wood, metal or concrete, especially one used to support the roof a building.

·stout A. a stout person is rather fat.

- tush N. 獠牙（豬）
13. after their different fashions
- 原句：the other animals began to arrive and make themselves comfortable after their different fashions. 其他的動物也到達了，在用他們各自特別的方式調整以後，使自己舒服地坐了下來。
- fashion N. 在這裡應該意為「方式」；if you do something in a particular fashion or after a particular fashion, you do it in that way.
14. (on the) window-sills
- N. a narrow shelf below a window, either inside or outside.
15. the pigeons fluttered up to the rafters
- flutter V. when a bird or an insect flutters its wings, or its wings flutter, the wings move lightly and quickly up and down.
- rafter N. rafters are the sloping pieces of wood that support a roof.
- 鴿子飛到屋椽上。
16. chew the cud
- 反覆咀嚼已經咀嚼過的食物，稱為「倒爵」
- cud N. the food that cows and similar animals bring back from the stomach into the mouth to chew again.
17. Clover was a stout motherly mare.
- Clover 是一個肥胖的有著慈母般氣質的母馬

N. a very young horse or donkey.（這裡意為「下駒」、「生崽」）

- paddock N. A paddock is a small field where horses are kept.
21. grazing (side by side)
- graze V. when animals graze or are grazed, they eat the grass or other plants that are growing in a particular place. You cna also say that a field is grazed by animals.

- 一窩小鴨崽
23. (ducklings) filed (into the barn)
- file V. to walk in a line of people(or animals), one after the other, in a particular direction
24. cheeping feebly
- cheep V. to make short high sounds
- feebly AD. in a way that shows somebody is very weak.
- 虛弱地發出吱吱的叫聲
25. (...where they would not be) trodden (on)
- tread V. If you tread on something, you put your foot on it when you are walking or standing.
26. the ducklings nestled down inside it.
- 這窩小鴨崽舒服地安臥在這裡面。
- nestle V. to put or hold somebody/something in a comfortable position in a warm or soft place
27. (the ... mare who drew Mr Jone’s) trap.
- trap N. A trap is a light carriage with two wheels pulled by horses in which people used to travel.
