老外說"I’m nobody", 可別翻譯成「我不是人」!

有首英文詩，是這麼寫的I'm nobody! Who are you?Are you nobody too?

這兩句按字面翻譯是—「我不是人，你是誰」，「你也不是人嗎？」這也太恐怖了，難道今天小洛要講鬼故事？

其實「I'm nobody」這句話根本不是「我不是人」的意思哦，在美劇裡經常出現這段話。

比如《鯊魚黑幫》裡那個小魚的口頭禪就是「I'm nobody, but I want to be somebody.」真正的意思是「我是無名小卒，但是我想出人頭地」。

"I'm nobody " 不要翻譯成 「我不是人」

"nobody" 除了「沒有人」，還有「無名小卒，小人物」 的意思。英文注釋是：

a person who has no importance or influence

【譯】沒有重要性或影響力的人

所以 "I'm nobody" 可別再翻譯成 「我不是人了」，它的意思應該是「我是無名小卒」。

另外，還有與其相似的 "I'm somebody"， 可千萬別理解成「我是某某人」，它的意思是「我是大人物」。

例句：

She rose from being a nobody to become a superstar.

她從無名小輩一躍成為超級明星。

A man in my position has nothing to fear from a nobody like you.

處在我這樣位置的人，一點都不害怕像你這種小人物。

"third person" ≠ 「第三者」

"third person"是 「第三人稱」的意思，在一些語境中也可以直譯為「第三個人」！其英文注釋是：

a way of writing a novel, etc. as the experience of sb else, using third person forms

【譯】用第三人稱的形式寫小說等作為他人經驗的一種方式。

同樣，"first person" "second person" 分別是「第一人稱」 「第二人稱」的意思。

Ps：第三者的英文是「the other man/woman」，或者「mistress」

"best man" 不止是 「最好的男人」

"best man" 除了字面意思上的「最好的男人」外，還有「伴郎」的意思，其英文注釋是：

a male friend or relative of the bridegroom at a wedding, who helps him during the wedding ceremony

【譯】在婚禮上幫助新郎的男性朋友或親戚。

此外，伴娘的說法是bridesmaid [ bra dzme d] 。

例句：

I'm the best man for the job, I hope.

「Couch potato」可不是沙發土豆

Couch potato的字面意思是「沙發土豆」，看著怪怪的，其實它的真實含義是「懶人，老泡在電視機前的人」，終日在沙發上看電視的人就像「種在沙發前的土豆」一樣不動，看電視的同時還不停地吃炸土豆片，特別形象。其英文注釋是：

a person who spends a lot of time sitting and watching television

【譯】經常坐著看電視的人
