clothes中有些比較特殊的，比如pant（褲子）、short（短褲）、sock（襪子）、shoes（鞋）、glove（手套）這些成對出現的衣物，表示一條、一雙即單數時怎麼表達呢？


例如：

一條褲子：正確的表達為a pair of pants；這是一條褲子：It's a pair of pants（注意不是These are a pair of pants）。


而pants不與a pair of搭配使用時表示多條褲子，如these are pants(這些是褲子)。


語法：

1、a pair of的意思是「一對、一雙」，成對的物品都可以說成a pair of...，比如一條褲子有兩個一樣的褲管，我們就說a pair of pants，一雙襪子由兩隻一樣的襪子組成，我們就說a pair of socks，注意這裡的pants，socks因為有兩個，所以總是用複數形式。

2、當我們想說「這是一對..」的時候我們說It's a pair of...。之所以用 It is，是因為我們把一對物品看成了一個整體，a pair表示「一」對。

所以，讓我們總結一下，a pair of後面的物品一定是複數形式，而a pair 本身作為單數使用。
