這首詩曾在電影《星際穿越》中出現，在主角一行離開地球前往土星附近的蟲洞時，老科學家念出了這首詩的前兩節。知道即將面對死亡，卻義無反顧。
狄蘭·託馬斯完成這首詩歌時，他的父親正在病危中，全詩並未討論人生的真諦究竟如何，但卻通過對比，講述了不同的人生態度決定了人生的意義。這首詩歌不是悲傷的談論死亡，而是警醒自己，不要虛度時光，要不停抗爭，在世間留下痕跡。
