Job description
The new Autism, Bilingualism, Cognitive and Communicative Development (ABCCD) Lab at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, headed by Dr. Stephanie Durrleman, invites applications for two full-time doctoral positions (4 years each).
Applicants should have proven skills in
PhD1 will write a thesis investigating the influence of bilingualism on the cognitive and communicative development of typically developing (TD) children (ages 5 to 11)
PhD2 will write a thesis focusing on these issues in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (matched to the TD children on nonverbal developmental level).
Responsibilities of PhD candidates:
Bring ideas to fine-tune the research
Create innovative experimental materials
Recruit and test participants
Supervise MA students contributing to the research
Collaborate with the ABCCD network (i.e. multiple labs in Europe and North America)
Code, analyze data
Publish and present findings in national and international conferences, for academic and layman audiences
Participate in doctoral schools for PhD candidates in Switzerland
Required qualifications of PhD candidates
Background in cognitive neuroscience and/or psychology
Marked interest in linguistic, cognitive and communicative development in the context of bilingualism and developmental disorders
Applications must include:
