1. ordinary 意為「普通的」、「平凡的」，強調合乎常規、並不特殊。如：

用於 out of the ordinary，意為「不平常」、「非凡」。如：
This was nothing out of the ordinary. 那很平常。

2. common 意為「常見的」、「不足為奇的」，強調出現的次數頻繁或範圍廣泛。如：

註：common 還可表示「共同的」、「共有的」。如：

3. uaual 意為「平素的」、「慣常的」、「通常的」，指經常出現而不變。如：

用於 than usual (比平常) 和 as usual (像往常一樣)。如：
He arrived later than uaual. 他到得比平常晚些。

4. general 意為「一般的」、「全體的」、「總(括)的」等。如：
the general readers 一般讀者

general education 普通教育
用於 in general, 意為「總的說來」、「通常」等。注意以下用法：
(1) 用作狀語。如：
In general the plan is good. 總的說來，這個計劃是好的。
He was in general quite glad to go. 總的說來，他還是很樂意去。
(2) 放在複數名詞後作定語。如：
