比如中文裡的「糖衣炮彈」、「糖舌蜜口」

同樣的英文裡「sugar」也並不只是「糖」

Give someone some sugar是什麼意思？

give someone some sugar意思是：

親吻某人

只能和關係非常親近的人才可以說

當然也可以表示甜心的意思

畢竟糖還是很甜

例：

Before you walk out that door, come here and give me some sugar.

在你出門前，先過來親我下。

some friend you are 是什麼意思？

當有人對你說：Some friend you are

可不要以為對方是在誇你

這句話的意思是

（反語）你真是個好朋友啊

例：

You won't lend me the money? Some friend you are.

你不肯借我錢？真是個好朋友啊。

紅糖=brown sugar

為什麼不是red sugar？

紅色在形容顏色的時候，一般表示血色；

而紅糖是棕黃色的糖,所以紅糖≠red sugar

紅色形容眼睛：

red eye=熬夜和哭泣，充血（血絲)了的眼睛

夜間飛行的航班，又被稱為紅眼航班

例：

I took the red eye to LA.

我是做紅眼航班去洛杉磯的。

所以：

紅眼病≠ red eye

紅眼病= pink eye

而red sugar是這樣滴:

sugarcoat字面意思是「糖衣」

很容易聯想到中文裡的「糖衣炮彈」

但這個詞彙真正的意思是「粉飾、掩飾、美化」

（讓一件事情更容易被人接受）

例：

Our team has lost five consecutive games. There is no way to sugarcoat it.

我們球隊已經連輸五場，這種事實沒辦法掩飾。

「sugar the pill」是什麼意思？

英文詞典對這個俚語的解釋：

「

to make an unpleasant thing less difficult to accept or deal with

即：使不愉快的事情不那麼難以接受或處理

所以sugar the pill = 緩和情況，使...更容易接受

又可以說成sweeten the pill

例：

I have to tell my mom about wrecking her car, but I need to find a way to sugar the pill first.

我不得不告訴媽媽我弄壞了她的車，但首先我需要想辦法讓她更容易接受。
