在法律英語中，death 為死亡，即所有生命功能和生命跡象的永久終止。美國《統一死亡確定法》〔Uniform Determination of Death Act〕對死亡的定義是：１人體的血液循環功能和呼吸功能處於不可逆轉的終止狀態；或２人的整個大腦系統處於不可逆轉的終止狀態。
