English language is renown as the most valuable language to learn, with the universally accepted opinion that it is vital in the growth of children. Once students have mastered the complexities of the English language, there is no better way to extend this learning than to divulge in England’s finest literary classics. English literature goes beyond language, it teaches students about British history, universal themes such as love, war, desire, justice amongst many more. It represents the foundation to which learning is based.
The literature that QED’s students will study on the 15-hour programme will be based around famous, classic English literature texts. The Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre, Shakespeare, Lord of the Flies will be a few of the key focuses, representing literary classics which could be the focus of student’s GCSE, A level or University syllabuses. These works will expand students』 minds, encouraging students to form and build on their own opinions, comment on the texts universal themes, whilst analyzing the use of different language and devices. English literature serves to inform students of the context in which novels were created, such as the deeply enriched historical influence that impacted the way the work was written.
Likewise, the importance of poetry in society encourages students to 『think outside the box』. The 15-hour course prepares students to use literary devices to critique poetry and poets themselves.
By engaging with these famous works and the complexities of their use of language, students will be best prepared for their future learning in the British education system. Students on QED’s 15-hour programme will engage in more complex language and content. The content of the course will encourage students to build on original ideas, engage more articulately, be analytical and adopt a broader range of vocabulary. Most importantly, students will gain a greater understanding of the English language and the greatest works of English literature.
